Who Should Consider Psychological Testing?
Some clients visit me for psychological evaluation as a referral from a physician or therapist. Others pursue psychological testing because they want to increase self-awareness or have support as they work through a difficult time. There are also clients who need a specific diagnosis in order to find appropriate medications to manage mood or behavioral disorders. There are a variety of very good reasons to pursue psychological testing.
What Tests Are Part of Psychological Testing?
The backbone of psychological testing is clinical interviewing. This is where you tell me your story from your perspective. I will ask questions to guide the conversation and ensure I understand your strengths, areas of struggle and symptoms that may contribute to a specific diagnosis. From there, I may have you complete rating scales to describe the severity and extent of symptoms related to a variety concerns. Finally, I administer paper or computer-based tests to evaluate your skills and abilities as well as potential weaknesses. Once I compile the information, I review it and write a complete report that describes the findings, confirms any diagnoses and provides recommendations for ongoing support as needed.
